Problem & Context
Senior living communities lacked engaging, accessible activities tailored specifically for their residents. Traditional entertainment options often failed to account for the unique needs of seniors across different levels of care, missing opportunities to foster connection, laughter, and friendly competition in a way that resonated with older adults.
My Contributions
As Product Manager, I owned the product process and definition of new product features for Spintopia. I prototyped new game concepts in Unity to verify concepts, gather customer validation, and enable quick iterative improvement before full product and engineering development. I collaborated with a remote engineering team to ensure new features and bug fixes were completed. I contributed to technical and business strategy brainstorms and discussions around the direction of the product and company. I worked with the product and engineering team to test and scrutinize features and bugs. Additionally, I worked directly in AWS EC2 to manage a WordPress server and implement plugins, and contributed to frontend development using Next.js.
Impact & Results
Spintopia became Senior Living's favorite custom game show, providing an engaging, enjoyable, and accessible activity that fosters connection, laughter, and friendly competition. The product was thoughtfully crafted in collaboration with senior living experts to ensure inclusivity for all levels of care. Every detail, from sounds to colors, words, and fonts, was customized to create a welcoming environment that resonates with seniors, celebrating the joy of play tailored to meet the unique needs of senior living communities.
Challenges & Solutions
The primary challenge was creating an interactive game show experience that was both nostalgic and accessible to seniors across all levels of care. I had to balance engaging gameplay with accessibility considerations, ensuring the product worked for residents with varying cognitive and physical abilities. Prototyping in Unity required learning new tools and iterating quickly based on customer feedback before committing to full development. Managing a remote engineering team and coordinating feature development required strong communication and project management skills. Additionally, working directly with AWS EC2 infrastructure and WordPress required technical troubleshooting abilities while maintaining focus on product strategy and user experience.
